About Us

Matford Arable Systems are an independently owned agronomy based business supplying "Cutting Edge" advice, products and services to farmers across the South West.

We were founded in 1991 and have been based at Matford Barton, Exeter ever since. We were born out of the old Lime Distributors ECC Ltd business, which was sold in 1989 to KW Agriculture and who, after eighteen months, decided that they were going to cease trading in the South of England as an arable business. This left a vacuum, in May 1991 Matford Arable Systems was set up by Peter Ash and local businessman Richard Moynan.

The business is based around supplying an unsurpassed level of service to our customers, combined with the best advice and products available, for all crop types grown in the South West. In putting customer service first and foremost, Matford's reputation has grown over the years and is now a highly respected regional business.

The core business is based around the advice on, and supply of, crop protection products from a team of experienced BASIS qualified agronomists. As well as this we grow and process our own cereal seed crops ensuring that we have a supply of the right cereal varieties produced and treated to the highest standards. By growing our own seed crops we can make sure we are able to supply appropriate varieties for South West growing conditions.

We also have our own Grass Seed Blending Plant, which means that we can produce our own mixtures, again to a high specification. Having the Grass Plant also means that we have the ability to produce bespoke Mixtures of grass made to an individual client's own specification. Since purchasing the plant about five years ago this part of the business has expanded rapidly. We are able to produce agricultural and amenity grass mixes, and we produce our own PG Grass Seed range.

In addition to cereal and grass seeds we also supply seed for all other combinable crop types; maize seed, root seeds, game cover crops and environmental mixtures. As part of the seeds business we also operate a Mobile Seed Processing Unit which goes out to farms and processes and treats our customers home saved seed.

We are a major supplier of agricultural lime and offer a full soil service package as part of our service offer.

In addition to the above products and services our agronomists offer advice on fertiliser inputs, rotations, varieties, cultivation and crop establishment techniques.

In short, Matford Arable Systems is the "One Stop Shop" for all aspects of crop production.
